Premium Friday is a METI and Keidanren sponsored initiative for encouraging the public to take opportunities to enrich personal experiences for happiness and fun. The first ever Premium Friday took place on Friday, February 24, 2017, and has taken place on the last Friday of each month. On May 26, the first ever Premium Sports Friday took place, encouraging employees to use the extra time to participate in an athletic event of their choice.
As the Japan representative office for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay (BSMR), SSU secured the involvement of the Japan Sports Agency (Commissioner, Daichi Suzuki) and the Keidanren to host the first ever BSMR to be held in Japan. SUNNY SIDE UP president Etsuko Tsugihara and other senior management staff led the pack in the first BSMR Tokyo, held in the Marunouchi area, creating yet another innovative way for employees to take advantage of Premium Friday.
Marunouchi Nakadori, in the prime business area of Tokyo, was closed off for the event, allowing 550 runners from 55 teams to build teamwork and improve corporate fitness. 2 teams from SSU were led by company President Etsuko Tsugihara and Senior Vice President Norihito Watanabe, and gave employees from all levels and ranks an opportunity to communicate with each other in an environment outside of the workplace.
